Archibald
L to R: Jude Rae's portrait of Judith Peirse; Mariola Smarzak's portrait of Wendy Arnold; and Mirra Whale's portrait of Tom Urwn. I think the Uren portrait is a good representation of a deeply interesting man reaching the end of this life. |
Wynne
L to R: "Axis Mundi", by Tim Johnson; "Man moves Mountain" by Alexander McKenzie; and, "Where do we go now?" by Andrew Tompkins The Tompkins work is outstanding, and even better in person. |

We didn't go to the Archibald. I don't like crowded exhibitions. Have only done the restaurant once and a long time ago. Didn't like it but generally enjoy the cafe. We just had afternoon tea in the members lounge this time.
Enjoyed your post but sadly the right hand side is chopped off and won't scroll so I missed half of it. Would have like to see those at the right because they are the ones you comment most keenly on.
The chopped off I can understand, but I will check my sizing. Why on earth won't it scroll??? Grrr ...
I have only ever gone to the cafe before, and really enjoyed it. But both venues have changed contractors and now have Matt Moran, who is a bit 'Kale" for my taste.
It was very (VERY) crowded yesterday, especially with those guided tours! I did not even wander back on through, and I know there were walls in corners that we skipped. I am one who likes to dilly-dally.
There you go: totally changed the template, adjusted the main so it is 1250 wide, and alter some of the images to be only 300 wide.
Any better?
Thank you! Now I can enjoy.
Funny thing is I thought the first portrait was a photograph of the lady in the second so neither gets my vote. Tom Uren is more interpretative.
The second one in the Wynne appeals to my sense of whimsey.
Don't like any of the Sulman ones you have shown. But would go for the middle one if I had to pick.
Crowds do spoil these events don't they? I like the Jude Rae's portrait the best. Don't like any of the other much.
We are going to Sydney to visit Carol and David next week and I believe we may visit the NSW Art Gallery as well as their favourite eateries.
