I needed to compile this (very time-consuming) list to double-check names and dates and linkages. I did not want to go too far back into the British-based ancestors, as that was not part of my aim, and also because the further back one goes, the more difficult it becomes to ensure you are correct. It is very easy, when researching family history, to be sucked into tracing back one particular surname when, of course, this is only half the picture. It is very easy, when researching family history, to opt for the gaudy, exciting option, when objectivity is much more important than mere gut feel.
Weeks ago, I proved that in 1849 members of the SELBY clan perished in a plague outbreak in South London. This I picked up because too many of them had the same death year for it to be mere coincidence. Now, with the compilation of this list, there is another year - 1848 in Penzance - where three members of the TONKIN clan perish. So, off I go to find out why.

There is something wrong with the Tonkn in generation 3.
You have done a amazing job tracing so many lines back. It was my objective to gat to all my great great greats. I have not succeeded.
Indeed, thank you for your sharp eyes. I used my own details as a template. He would be a remarkably old man by now ... but then he would be a mine of information.
Wait until you retire. You will be able to sort them out with lots of time and the resources of the net. I am joining the SAG (Society of Austn Geneaologists) to access stuff not converted as yet. You will make it.
