I loved these "little boats" as a kid too. Great choice to go B&W to bring out the texture. I did some experimenting with B&W during my holidays to learn what works in monochrome as I have always admired it as an artform.

Yes, either B&W or Sepia is a challenge. I will often take a colour shot as well as a monochrome in an endeavour to maintain the authenticity of a shot. As an artform, I really respond to B&W but knowing when to use it is tough. It seems to me something to use when you want to emphasise one aspect and make the rest simply blend into the background. For me it is often the geometry of the image that determines colour or otherwise.
