A challenge for me, a non-lawyer, to be confronted with a debate about freedom of the press. A debate in the court, in the press, in society and in the film that gives the appearance of being proved by arguing the obverse. The cartoons - originally published in Denmark - were not racist because similar cartoons lampooning Christianity are published and these did not result in a court case. And the same line was pursued with regard to Buddhism and Judaism. Therefore, it is not racism to publish cartoons lampooning Mohammad.
The French are a very passionate, articulate race who will argue a case at the drop of a hat. I cannot imagine the same passion, the same love of ideas and love of freedom being used to defend a charge in an Australian court. Here it would be dry precedents and clauses.

Yes, the French are very passionate, articulate race. (my husband is french) They can have a debate about politics, etc., and, at the end of the day, still talk to one another. What a concept!
Indeed, that is what crossed my mind as I watched. They disageed but were still friends.
Yes FF are indeed unique. I have two more from the festival this weekend and then another two that made general release.
