Beautiful new set! There is nothing like Mother Nature! I really have no idea about the garden chemicals you are referring to, sorry, but what you see on the statue are lichens and only time can make them look like that...
Thanks JM for giving it some thought. I don't think I will live long enough to see lichens grow! However, with some googling, I have found that a combination of yoghurt and spores from the nursery should do the trick.
This set and yesterdays are great. We have lots of lichen on our trees here (which are old) though I read somewhere that you need nice clean air for lichens to grow well. Regarding the yoghurt, our landscaper recommended it when he introduced new rocks into the garden ... I didn't bother and now 10 years or so later there is so much lichen on them they look like they have been here forever.
Oh I adore trees! I recently finished studying for my Masters degree in Urban Horticulture, focusing on landscape sociology. I'm particularly interested in 'place-making' and people's relationships to place and the environment, especially connections with trees :-)

The yoghurt is not progressing terribly well as I am not able to keep it moist enough - would need a dripping tap which I have ethical problems with.
